Wine & Spirit Education Trust - Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wines
This one day wine course provides basic product knowledge and skills needed in the service and sale of wine. The Foundation Certificate covers an introduction to wine, the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting at a basic level, wine & food matching and storage & serving of wine.Tasting of wines is an integral part of the course.
Qualification objective: To provide the basic product knowledge and skills in the service and sale of wine. Wine Trainers have opted to offer the Hospitality option for all "open" courses - i.e courses for individuals. For "bespoke" courses - that is, for employers - either option can be specified.
For the Wine Professional and the Wine Enthusiast:
The Wine Trainers Level 1 Foundation Certificate Course in Wines provides a
basic introduction to the main styles of wines available to front-line staff
involved in the sale of wine. The qualification aims to provide the basic
product knowledge and customer-service skills required to prepare a person for
their first job in wine retail. There are currently 2 strands to this
qualification: Hospitality and Retail.
The course is also appropriate for those not employed in the drinks industry
but who have a serious interest in wine and wish to broaden their knowledge in
a structured way. Whilst this course is a formal qualification, we also do our
best to make it enjoyable!
Duration:
The course will be delivered in a one-day session, followed by a 45 minute
multiple choice examination. See course schedule for further details.
Accreditation:
The qualification has full accreditation from the Government's Qualifications
& Curriculum Authority as a Level 1 Vocational Qualification.

Minimum age requirement 18 at time of booking. We reserve the right to ask for
proof of age (driving licence, passport etc) under the provisions of the
Licensing Act 2003.
What is included: Fees include study materials, samples, tuition and examination. Course materials will be made available on at the course.
Confirmation and joining instructions: Confirmation and joining instructions will be e-mailed to you (or sent by post if we do not have your e-mail address).
Bookings: Bookings will be made via Wine Trainers Ltd, unless otherwise notified. Full payment must be made at the time of booking. We do not accept provisional bookings and places will only be confirmed once payment is received. Bookings will only be accepted on valid forms with signed/agreed student declaration. Booking forms are available from Wine Trainers Ltd.
Examination (optional): Examination dates are fixed to the course onto which you book and any transfer to an alternative date will incur an administration fee of £25. All transfer requests must be made in writing or by e-mail to martin.straus@winetrainers.com at least 14 working days before the original examination date. Transfer requests made within 14 working days of the examination date will incur additional charges.
Cancellation by student: Cancellations of confirmed places are accepted only if the place can be transferred to another applicant, and if the place is re-sold, an administration fee of £25 will be charged. All course materials will be allocated to the replacement student.
Cancellation or changes by Wine Trainers Ltd: Course fees will be refunded in full if Wine Trainers Ltd changes a date or cancels the course if enrolments do not reach the required minimum numbers notification will be made within the 10 working days prior to the start of the course. If course is cancelled by the venue for whatever reason, this is subject to their terms and conditions, and Wine Trainers Ltd can accept no liability other than return of course fees.
