Linda Field and her husband Christopher Hunt have a beautiful property in the Rhone Valley, near Carpentras. Like our Managing Director, Martin Straus, Linda is a WSET Certified Educator, and offers accommodation, meals, vineyard visits and wine tuition for upto 15 guests at any one time. Linda and Martin will be working together to offer bespoke tours for both wine enthusiasts and wine professionals, which might include a short course at the University of Wine at Suze-la-Rousse.
Courses and sessions offered will include WSET Foundation Certificate, Academy of Food & Wine Service Skills programmes and matching wines and foods of the region.

House of Straus and Weald Refrigeration Limited (established 1969) are to work together to market a range of wine cooler cabinets for the hospitality industry to sell at from £350 to £5,000. All equipment is manufactured in the UK under the direct control of the company's founder and Managing Director, John Burgess. Academy of Food & Wine appoints Martin Straus Director of Regional Development
The Academy of Food & Wine (previously "Academy of Wine Service") was established in 1988 to develop skills in the hospitality industry. We are delighted to announce that Martin Straus has been appointed Director of Regional Development, with the brief to extend membership and activities across the UK, starting with a pilot scheme in Central England. The Academy grew out of the Guild of Sommeliers, of which Martin was Chairman of the Hertfordshire Branch in the early 80s, and subsequently was the first training officer for the Academy of Wine Service.
The apppointment carries with it membership of the Board of the AFW, subject to ratification by the Board later this year. The Academy is currently administering an exciting opportunity for restaurants and other catering establishments across England, Wales and Scotland - a gastronomic competition for chef/wine waiter teams with a prize of a two week trip to European food & wine regions. Wine Foundation Course at Buckden a Great Success
WSET Wine Foundation Course on Saturday 7th March at George, Buckden a Great Success
Course participants included 6 wine enthusiasts, 2 George staff members and the owner of the Thresher Wine Shop, St Ives, Cambridgeshire. Those attending the course enjoyed a convivial light lunch, accompanied by a glass of Champagne provided by Wine Trainers Ltd. This was served in the delightful Open Up wine flute, as sold by House of Straus. A video recording was made, using extracts of the course and interviews with participants, and will be available for viewing shortly.
The next Foundation Certificate is on Saturday, 4th April, cost is £99 inclusive of Tuition, Wines, Food Samples, Course Materials and Exam (no VAT) and bookings are already coming in. For all bookings received by Monday 16th March, we will give away a top quality waiter's friend corkscrew worth over £7. Bookings will be taken upto Wednesday 26th March, and after this date will incur a late booking surcharge.
Our first Intermediate Certificate will be over 5 Saturdays, again at the George, Buckden, and costs £299 (no VAT). Dates are April 18th & 25th; May 2nd, 16th & 23rd.

This will feature an introduction to wine & food matching and include tastings of four superb wines from the outstanding Old Bridge Wine Shop, accompanied by 5 food components.
HBN members will be also able to taste 3 wines at the Old Bridge Wine Shop, Huntingdon, FREE until the end of the month (worth £3). The excellent value WSET Wine Foundation Course to be held on Saturday March 7th will comprise a combination of wine enthusiasts, staff members from the George and the owner of a Huntingdonshire wine shop.
A further Foundation Course will be held at The George, Buckden on Saturday, May 4th and bookings are already coming in. Cost is £99 inclusive of tuition, wine samples, food samples, workbook and exam fee. To avoid disappointment, BOOK NOW!
The WSET Intermediate Certificate commences Saturday May 18th, also at the George. We encourage all participants to take the Foundation Certificate as far more is then gained when embarking on the Intermediate Certificate.

House of Straus launched at Wine+, in association with Pineapple Wine Services
House of Straus were launched at Wine+, Olympia, a trade show in February 2009 aimed at restaurants. We were working with our good friends & associates, Pineapple Wine Services, demonstrating the Open Up wine glassware range. Despite the apalling weather, although visitor numbers were down on 2008, the attendance was still very good, and we were kept consistently busy throughout the show.
The Open Up range was a major draw, with many people walking past the stand doing a u-turn to take a second look! We offered a comparison with the ISO tasting glass, which really opened the eyes of many! A really exciting wine stemware range for trade & consumer alike, you won't regret contacting us for details!

Martin Straus, Managing Director of Wine Trainers Ltd, is proud to announce that he has just been elected a full member of the Institute of Hospitality (MIH), the professional institute for the hospitality industry
Wine Trainers Ltd may be a new name, but its founder, Martin Straus is not only passionate about wine but has a wealth of experience both in wine and wine education. His first wine qualification dates back to 1974 and his wine career includes nine years with Hedges & Butler, at the time the market leaders, followed by twelve years as a wine education consultant. During that time he specialised in Wine & Food Pairing, presenting at the first Restaurant Show in 1990 and the United States Embassy in London.
We aim to satisfy three target markets:
