The WSET is the only wine & spirit education organisation approved by the UK government as a national awarding body of vocational qualifications. The WSET qualifications provide underpinning knowledge which can be applied in a number of different job functions
Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wines
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRLRGKZzjX4This (generally) one day wine course provides basic product knowledge and skills needed in the service and sale of wine. For certain trade sectors Wine Trainers recommend this is spread over two days - please discuss logistics with us.
Wine Trainers strongly recommend that most Intermediate Certificate candidates take advantage of the Foundation Certificate, as it provides a platform for two key areas in particular: the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting and Elementary Wine & Food Matching in a less formal context. We strongly believe that more is gained from the Intermediate Certificate if this route is taken.
Level 2 Intermediate Certificate in Wines and Spirits
This wine and spirits qualification offers broad coverage of all product categories in the field of wines and spirits, together with basic wine tasting technique. It underpins job skills and competencies in the customer service and sales functions of the hospitality, retail and wholesale industries.
This is an outstanding qualification for Wine Enthusiasts also, as it lays a platform for a lifetime of effective wine tasting as practised by the Wine Trade, and a gateway to other wine qualifications if desired: WSET Advanced Certificate, WSET Diploma, and perhaps beyond ...
Also, an ideal qualification for those seeking to enter the Wine Trade, Retail and Hospitality Industries, or thinking about starting their own wine businesses.
Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits
Provides a more comprehensive coverage of the wide range of wines and spirits around the world to equip those in a supervisory capacity with the authority and confidence to make informed decisions in a wide variety of trade situations. The qualification has an increased focus on wine tasting technique.
This is an intensive wine course, requiring some serious studying from the student to get the best out of it. At the annual WSET awards ceremony, there are some excellent prizes awarded to top students, including non-wine trade graduates. Takes the Intermediate level many notches higher and again ideal for those seeking work connected with wine, or considering their own wine business. Also, an essential precursor to those intending to apply for the WSET Diploma course (the management qualification for the wine industry).
